Privacy policy

CurbCause is software, operated by Horine Tech LLC (“we”), that Scout units and similar groups (“units”) use to run pickup-based donation fundraisers, such as Christmas tree recycling. This policy explains what information CurbCause handles, why, and who can see it. Questions go to hello@curbcause.com.
Who is responsible
Each fundraiser is run by a unit. When you sign up for a pickup or donate, you are dealing with that unit, and CurbCause handles your information on the unit’s behalf. The unit can see the information you give for its fundraiser. Horine Tech LLC runs the service and keeps it secure.
What we collect
- Residents who sign up for a pickup: name, email address, pickup address, an optional phone number, the pickup day, notes you add, how you chose to donate, and the link you arrived through (for example a flier or a social post).
- Donations made online are processed by Stripe or PayPal and paid to the unit’s own account. CurbCause never sees or stores full card numbers. We keep the amount, date, method and status of each donation so the unit can reconcile it.
- Unit volunteers (admins, dispatchers, treasurers and crew leads): name, email address, phone number and vehicle details given at sign-up, and sign-in records.
- Crew lead location: while a crew lead has a pickup or flier run open in the CurbCause app, the app records the phone’s location so dispatch can see the crew and mark houses passed. Location is not recorded outside an open run.
- Scouts: units enter scouts’ first and last names only, to track service hours. CurbCause does not collect contact details for scouts and does not collect information directly from children.
- Technical data: basic server logs (time, page requested, IP address and browser type) used to keep the service running and secure. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not use third-party analytics.
How it is used
- To schedule and carry out pickups, and to show crews and dispatch where to go.
- To send emails about your pickup: confirmation, a reminder the day before, and whether it was picked up.
- To let the unit account for donations and service hours.
- To send fundraiser news from the unit, only if the unit chooses to and never after you unsubscribe. Every such email has an unsubscribe link.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Who it is shared with
- The unit running the fundraiser you signed up for.
- Stripe and PayPal, to process online donations.
- Amazon Web Services, to send email.
- Google, to show maps and directions in the apps.
- Anyone the law requires us to share it with.
How long it is kept
A unit can see its past seasons, so sign-ups and donation records are kept while the unit uses CurbCause. A unit can ask us to delete its data. Crew location trails are kept for the season they were recorded in and then deleted. Server logs are kept for up to 90 days.
Your choices
You can ask the unit, or us at hello@curbcause.com, to see, correct or delete your information. Unsubscribe links in fundraiser emails stop those emails right away. We will not send text messages without your explicit consent.
Security
Information travels over encrypted connections, access within a unit is limited by role, and only admins and treasurers can see donation amounts. Backups are encrypted.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
